Longhanded Policies & Terms

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of and purchase from Longhanded LLC (“Longhanded,” “we,” “us,” “our”). By purchasing from our site, you agree to the following:

1. Right to Refuse Service

We reserve the right to decline, refuse, or cancel any order at our sole discretion. We will not embroider text that:

• Promotes or glorifies violence,

• Contains hate speech or discriminatory content targeting women, immigrants, or marginalized groups,

• Uses slogans, phrases, or identifiers associated with groups engaged in or supporting such speech or conduct.

Orders refused on these grounds will be cancelled and refunded.

2. Copyright & Handwriting Submissions

• By submitting handwriting, you represent and warrant that you own the handwriting or have full rights to submit it for embroidery.

• Handwriting is treated as a performance of text. The author of the underlying work (song, poem, excerpt, etc.) retains ownership of the text itself, but the handwriting constitutes a distinct, original performance fixed in ink.

• Longhanded acts as the recording entity. Embroidery is not duplication or reproduction (like photocopying or screen printing). It is the recording of a performance in a new medium — thread.

• Responsibility for lawful use of text rests entirely with the customer. Longhanded expressly disclaims liability for infringement claims related to handwriting submissions.

3. Data & Privacy

• This website operates on Shopify and related third-party integrations. Customer searches, browsing activity, or interactions may be logged or processed by those parties.

• Longhanded cannot guarantee complete privacy or confidentiality. For more information, see Shopify’s Privacy Policy.

4. Returns & Cancellations

• All products are custom and made-to-order. All sales are final.

• If your order arrives damaged or incorrect due to our error, you must notify us within seven (7) days of delivery. We may, at our discretion, repair, replace, or refund the product.

5. Shipping & Fulfillment

• Standard production time is 5-7 business days. Shipping times may vary with order volume, supply shortages, or carrier delays.

• Free U.S. shipping is included unless otherwise specified at checkout.

6. Warranties & Limitations of Liability

• All products are provided “as is.” Natural variation in embroidery is expected and is considered part of the authenticity of the product.

• To the maximum extent permitted by law, Longhanded shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of our products or services.

7. Customer Conduct

We do not tolerate abusive, threatening, or harassing communication. Orders may be cancelled and refunded if this occurs.

8. Force Majeure

We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our control, including natural disasters, strikes, supply shortages, or government restrictions.

9. Photo Use Permission

We may document and photograph completed works for marketing. Customers may opt out at checkout if they do not want their handwriting displayed.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of Wisconsin.

11. Final Statement

Longhanded exists to preserve handwriting as performance, fixed in fabric. We take this work seriously and expect customers to engage in good faith. Hate, infringement, or abuse has no place here.

Risks / Limitations

• Courts have not yet adjudicated handwriting as a “performance” under copyright law. Your position is novel but arguable, grounded in performance doctrines used for music, comedy, and spoken word.

• This Terms & Conditions cannot prevent a claim from being filed, but it sets a clear contractual allocation of responsibility: the customer assumes liability.
